CLASS SYLLABUS – COURSE #102
Beginning Decorating Techniques
Your cake has been baked, leveled, crumb-coated and iced – and it is now ready to be decorated! This course will teach you the fundamentals of decorating techniques, including planning your cake design elements; proper handling of pastry bags; coloring your icings; uses of different tips in your designs; basic piping and writing techniques,; making stars, dots, shells, drop flowers and leaves; basic borders; and how to roll fondant and use it to cover a round cake. Students in this class will have the option of choosing to create one of the following cake designs:
Completion of Course #101 – Cake Preparation, or equivalent knowledge and experience of the elements of that course.
- By the end of this course, students will have gained the basic knowledge of cake design and use of cream icings to create many design elements.
- Students will learn how to work with and roll fondant to cover a basic round cake.
- How to pre-plan and execute your cake design, learning the different piping techniques for each section of your cake; rules of color and structure.
This 5-hour course will cover the course objectives as outlined above.
Students will take home their completed and decorated cakes at the conclusion of this course.
Please Note: The class outline as described above is general in nature to the skills taught and includes different items and techniques that are planned for this course. However, please keep in mind that due to small size of our classes, the differing skill levels of each student, and the intimate teaching methods utilized – some of the above-described items may not be taught in every class.
